What causes trigger points? 

Trigger point knots in your muscles can lead to serious pain and discomfort. They typically develop in your upper back in your shoulder area, although you can have trigger points and overly tight muscles anywhere in your neck and back. 

If you have trigger points, which occur when your muscles can’t relax, they may be caused by or linked to:

• Overexertion from exercise or training
• Injuries, including sports injuries
• Muscle tension or spasms 
• Overuse from work

You may be able to feel trigger point knots just by rubbing your muscles. They’re usually very sore and tender to the touch. With trigger point injection treatments, though, you won’t have to live with agonizing trigger point pain another day.

While you can certainly leave the office at Republic Spine and Pain and return to most of your normal activities, your doctor typically recommends avoiding heavy lifting or strenuous activities for a few days.
