About Dr. Fay

James Fay, MD, is triple board certified in anesthesiology, pediatric anesthesiology, and pain medicine by the American Board of Anesthesiology. He treats patients at Republic Spine and Pain, with locations in Austin and Georgetown, Texas. Dr. Fay is an active member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Texas Medical Association, and serves as a delegate for the Texas Society of Anesthesiologists.

Dr. Fay earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana, before completing his Master of Engineering in Bioengineering at Texas A&M University in College Station. While at Texas A&M, he completed a graduate-level project on the biomechanical stresses produced in the knee.

Dr. Fay spent two years in pulmonary research at the UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas before his passion for aerospace led to a career at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. While working for NASA, Dr. Fay designed biomedical sensors for use on the International Space Station. He then obtained his medical degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock. He went on to complete his residency in anesthesiology at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. 

Dr. Fay served as the chief of anesthesia at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, specializing in pediatric and neuro-anesthesia, as well as regional anesthesia for orthopedic procedures. After six years in private practice for anesthesia, Dr. Fay returned to the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and completed an interventional pain medicine fellowship.

Fluent in English and German, Dr. Fay specializes in the multimodal treatment of pain, including injection therapy, spinal cord stimulation, kyphoplasty, medication management, and physical therapy. 

In his free time, Dr. Fay enjoys spending time with his family, running marathons, traveling (he never misses an Aggie football game), and grilling.
