About Dr. Chien
Dr. Jack Chien is a fellowship-trained pain specialist and physiatrist at Republic Spine and Pain. He brings a unique, analytical problem-solving background to patient care. Prior to medicine, Dr. Chien earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from UC Riverside. He then spent seven years working as a process engineer in the oil and gas industry. Driven by a desire to make a positive impact on those around him, he decided to change careers and earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Dr. Chien completed his transitional internship at Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare in El Paso, Texas. He went on to complete his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at Providence St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Medical Center in Spokane, Washington. During residency, he repeatedly saw that uncontrolled pain was one of the most common obstacles standing between patients and their functional recovery. To address this, he completed advanced subspecialty training through an ACGME-accredited Pain Medicine fellowship at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.
Dr. Chien’s medical journey has been a true Southwestern loop. It stretched from New Mexico to West Texas, up to the Pacific Northwest, back to Albuquerque, and now full circle back to Texas. His clinical goal is to manage pain and restore function through targeted procedures and evidence-based treatments, helping patients reclaim their quality of life.
Outside of work, Dr. Chien enjoys traveling, hiking, and exploring Austin’s vibrant food scene. Tapping into Austin’s active outdoor culture, he recently picked up pickleball and plans to try golf next. He also loves spending quality time with his family and rescue dog.
